Dear Friends and Ministry Partners,
"THANK YOU for your partnership and your prayer for this trip
I might summarize this report with the comments of a leading bishop during our pastor’s conference (see the context, below): “These teachings are changing us and they’re all the things we desperately need!”
As I write this report, I have two more times of ministry remaining: Preaching at a local church tomorrow and time pouring into Pastor Paul and Vivian – either tomorrow or Monday morning, before my departure for France.
Because I was invited to do a pastor’s conference, I’ll begin with that ministry, which took place Tuesday, July 29th and ended Friday, Aug. 1. The attendance was 70, 92, 110 and 105, respectively.
The host, Pastor Paul, asked me to teach on the Parables of Jesus and he explained that none of the attending pastors had ever had any teaching and training on this subject – fully 1/3 of Jesus’ teaching.
By the time I finished, the rejoicing was comprehensive and palpable; now, they felt confident in understanding the reason for Jesus’ parables, their purpose, their goal and how to apply and preach them.
By God’s grace, I was surprised at how many of the parables I was able to cover, spending the most time on the Parable of the Sower from Mt. 13, then going through all the parables in Mt. 13. In addition to that, we covered the parables of the Good Samaritan, the Prodigal Son, the Rich Man (Luke 13:12-21).
All these were covered in-depth. Moreover, we did the same with the parables of the Rich Man and Lazarus, the parables on prayer from Luke 11 and 18, the parable on Forgiveness from Mt. 18, plus, I also supplemented that with an extensive teaching from Romans 8:16-23 about God's plan to restore everything.
I won’t elaborate here, but there came a point when I needed to teach them the history of the Protestant Reformation, as it pertains to the Church in Kenya, which doesn’t know Church History. As its background, I explained the errors of the Roman Catholic Church, letting that serve as a warning against becoming Pharisaical today.
I had a feeling they would appreciate that part, but I had no idea how much they would. That emphasis took hold, deeply. Finally, I taught extensively on the nature of God from Ex. 34:6-7; Ps. 16:11; 27:4.
Finally, I did some impromptu teaching on the Holy Trinity and the relevance of this to everyday life. A bishop stood up and exclaimed, “These teachings are changing us and they’re all the things we desperately need!
Though the teaching was intensive and concentrated, I still love to crack jokes with them, and we had a ton of laughter, as always; each time we experience significant joy in our meetings together.
Lastly, I was able to do my radio broadcast live at the station a few hours after I arrived the first Saturday, preached to the whole church for Pastor Paul on Sunday and spent time with the orphans and spoke to them as a group on Monday on How to be a Psalm One Man or Woman.
Tomorrow Sunday morning, I preach at a different church and then I'll spend several hours ministering to Paul and Vivian either in the afternoon or Monday before I get on my first flight to get to France on Aug 4th, for part two of this ministry trip!”
