A Study of Heaven: Why is it Important? (video series)
Pastor Brad Abley: Biblical Educator
A 7-Week Teaching on Heaven (video series)
John MacArthur observes:
“A genuine and strong longing for heaven also brings joy and comfort in trials. Those who focus on heaven's glories can endure anything in this life and not lose their joy. When they suffer, they can say with Paul, “for momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison (2 Cor. 4:17).”

Is Heaven ethereal?
Is it a spiritual place?
Heaven Defined
What is “heaven?” Chiefly, it is the abode of the triune God (e.g. Ps. 73:25; John 14:1-3; 16:28;17:1-5; Acts 1:1, 9-11; 1 Pet. 1:12), and of His angels (e.g. Luke 22:43; Rev. 5:11-12). It is His “holy habitation” (Deut. 126:15; 1 Kings 8:30, 39, 43, 49; 2 Chr. 30:27), while His dwelling is also particularly in Jerusalem (cf. Joel 3:17, 21; Is. 11:9; 56:7; Ezek. 20:40).
Heaven is a literal place, just as the earth is a literal place. God took Elijah into heaven (2 Kings 2:1, 11), just as Jesus came from heaven (Eph. 4:9; Rom. 10:6), returned and ascended into heaven, bodily (Acts 1:11; Eph. 4:10; 6:9; Col. 4:1; cf. Rom. 8:34) – and He will return to earth –bodily (Phil. 3:20; 1 Thess. 1:10; 4:16; 2 Thess. 1:7).
Heaven is both material and physical as well as spiritual; even now, we’re “seated with Him in the heavenly places in Christ” (Eph. 2:6); our citizenship is already in heaven (Phil. 3:20), though it awaits our arrival. All our spiritual riches are in heaven (Eph. 1:3-21), and our full inheritance is there (1 Pet. 1:6-7).

John MacArthur writes,
“A heavenly perspective is vital, since everything connected to believers’ spiritual life and destiny is there. Their Father is there, as are their Savior and their Comforter. The myriads of their fellow believers who have successfully run their earthly races are there”
(Heb. 12:23).
Charles Haddon Spurgeon:
He wrote this about his own impending death: “To come home from exile, to come to land out of the raging storm, to come to rest after long labour, to come to the goal of my desires and the summit of my wishes.”
Randy Alcorn:
In his outstanding book on heaven, writes, “I pity the man who never thinks accurately about Heaven…It’s our inaccurate thinking, I believe, that causes us to choose to think so little about Heaven.”
D. L. Moody
In one of his last sermons, declared, “We say this is the land of the living! It is not. It is the land of the dying.”

Scripture leaves no doubt for us that Heaven is also a very real place – just as real as earth is! Heaven has a city, called the “new Jerusalem” (Rev. 3:12; cf. 21:2, 10) just as earth has a earthly Jerusalem…
